Welcome

The Hamilton Hellenic Traditional Dance Group of St. Demetrios was created as part of an initiative to connect our youth and provide a platform to explore traditional Greek Dance and Folklore via the formation of a Performance Troupe.

As a platform for our youth to come together, the HHTDG has provided an excellent way for our youth to connect with their peers, as well as mentor younger members of our parish. The participants of the Greek Dance Programs led by our Greek school refine their skills and work towards joining the youth of our HHTDG Performance Troupe.

Our tenured instructors have a proud history of sharing their passion and knowledge in the rich and vibrant traditions of Greek dance, and Greek song and music. Under their skilled tutelage, and as proud ambassadors of our community, the members of the Hamilton Hellenic Traditional Dance Group have showcased the traditions of various regions of Greece, and have participated in many dance conferences, and cultural tours in Canada, the United States, and Greece. The groups performances have been enjoyed by families, local politicians, cultural groups, and media internationally, often being praised and lauded wherever we go.

Collaborating with other dance troupes and cultural groups in Canada, the USA, and Greece, the members of the HHTDG have built relationships and experiences that are enduring and powerful, offering opportunities that would be difficult to achieve otherwise, creating memories and building community. Our members learn critical leadership and interpersonal skills, and act as both community and cultural ambassadors at a local and broader level.
 

The instructors and members of our group are present and participate in many of the activities and initiatives of our church community, such as fundraisers, festivals, cultural and religious events. These efforts help us to build and maintain a strong and healthy community, exemplifying our ideals and morals, while sharing their time and tremendous talent with our community.

The Hamilton Hellenic Traditional Dance Group remains a cornerstone of our parish, representing the future of our community and a platform for continuing to share the beautiful and time-honored traditions of our Hellenic culture.
